Panerai and Mike Horn PANGAEA
















Panerai was the sponsor of the new task of Mike Horn. The famous South Africa explorer left the Principality of Monaco in May 2008, set foot on a four-year adventure. His tracks would cover all continents, including Antarctica, the objective was to spread awareness about the current state of the earth, awake public awareness of environmental problems on earth.

This adventure was called PANGAEA (Pan Global Adventure for Environmental Action). Mike Horn would be adhering to the motto "adventure, learning, action". Except as observers, Mike Horn would also actively participate in actions to build our home planet a better place.

The headerquarters of the four-year PANGAEA expedition was a Pangaea ship that was equipped with several innovative technologies. This Pangaea environmental ship was designed and built in South Africa, the ship could accommodate 30 people on board, with communications and conference facilities.

On the way of adventure, Mike Horn would carry out cooperations with educational institutions in different regions and local experts. Young people that joined the expedition would experience the value and fun of sharing and appreciating the real adventure together with Mike. Number of experts would teach these young people the knowledge of the environment to make them aware of important environmental issues in today's world. Under the guidance of environmental experts, these young people would participate in purification project and other environmental projects to bring blessedness to human beings, the environment and most importantly, the future of our planet.

Mike Horn became world famous because of mounting the North Pole on foot, this time, his new mission as always received the full support of Panerai. This Florentine watch brand became world-renowned for developing innovative high-tech sports watches, Panerai invited Mike Horn to wear the watch that was specially designed for him, the watch could withstand the most severe test. The watch that demonstrated the traditional heritage of Panerai would accept various studies to measure its durability and function under extreme conditions.

Panerai always stuck to its core values, respect for tradition, the pursuit of excellence, reliability and innovation, and the protection of the environment. Panerai also supported the traditional and classical yacht event Panerai Classic Yacht Challenge (PCYC), which reflected the firm belief of Panerai on the issue of environmental protection.

In the past four years, Panerai has promoted a range of public service campaigns that closely related to their brand and products.

PANGAEA (Pan Global Adventure for Environmental Action)

An important goal of PANGAEA (Pan Global Adventure for Environmental Action) was to let young people to participate in. No doubt, Mike Horn was the most experienced global explorer on the earth. His goal was to spread his knowledge gained through the adventure - the knowledge would indicate that the natural world was in a precarious situation and which areas people should pay attention to to find solutions to improve the state of the earth. Adventure, learning, action would make the next generation be able to provide sustainable solutions for nature and human being.

The objectives of Young Explorer Program (in the final stage of development) include:

1. To provide opportunities for young people to let them have the opportunity to experience the beauty of nature.

2. To arouse public awareness to respect the earth and its resources.

3. To participate in the global purification project.

4. To create environmental projects with qualified professionals.

5. To convey important environmental information to colleagues and the people around them.

6. To create a forum where young people can provide the solutions that will be listened to.

From 2009, those young people who were 15-20 years old from all continents would be invited to join the four-year adventure of Mike Horn. Through the explaining of professionals of educational institutions and the expertise that were provided by local guides, young people would learn about the plants, animals, culture and tradition of the places they visited. When exploring nature, there would be someone to help them understand the impact of important environmental issues in today's world. These young people shared their experience with other young people and disseminated them, playing the role of ambassadors of knowledge. Encouraged these young people to spread their new ideas, feelings and knowledge and to persuade other young people around the world to accept these things.

3. To explore the biological diversity and island of Indonesia's sea. (October 2009)

4. The exchange of Indian culture and experience. (January 2010)

5. The hiking of the Himalayas in Nepal and cultural studies. (June 2010)

6. Go to the source of over-irrigation of the Yellow River, China's Gobi Desert. (August 2010)

7. Arctic biodiversity, Siberia and Katanga River. (December 2010)

8. The critical temperature of the collapse of the Arctic ice cap. (May 2011)

9. To explore the culture of Inuit and their dependence on nature, Nunavut in Canada. (August 2011)

10. In the United States, the hiking of the Nature Reserve which the turbulent Colorado River crossed. (November 2011)

11. To explore the Brazilian Amazon rainforest, which is humid and rich of water. (April 2012)

12. To assist the East African tribe under development. (0July 2012)

As a member of the Laureus World Sports Academy, Mike Horn was very looking forward to seeing some of the children selected from the Lawrence Community Foundation, supported by the Sports humanitarian projects. Lawrence Foundation was currently supporting more than 60 humanitarian projects that involved in young people. Now, PANGAEA (Pan Global Adventure for Environmental Action) was discussing about a basic program with the Lawrence Foundation, this program would help identify and select applicants by using some existing projects, these applicants would become the candidates in the final selection stage of a training camp in Switzerland.
